Sample Itinerary #3

Custom designed to maximize your experience. I have always believed that with every adventure you take in travel there are 3 trips in one. The one you experience while planning. The one you experience while actually on the trip and the one you keep in your memory.

Our aim is to make all three exceptional....

Departure Day:

Depart on flight organized independently by the client.

Day 1:

Arrive in Tanzania

Private transfer from Giraffe Manor to Namanga Border and then onto Arusha. Your driver will pick you up at 10:00 am unless other plans are decided later. Upon arrival in Arusha, you can enjoy a free afternoon to relax at the private home of “Mama Joe”. Gourmet meal and overnight. Susan will arrive late this evening.

Overnight at Mama Joe’s

Day 2:

Karatu Region

Your safari begins today... but slowly. Leisurely morning before setting off to Karatu, one of Tanzania’s most productive agricultural areas where coffee, rice, and maize are important crops. On our way, we will pass through the lush and lively village of Mto Wa Mbu right before the road starts ascending as we near the Great Rift Valley escarpment. We will have a chance to appreciate a view of this awesome geological feature as well as one of the famous soda lakes, Lake Manyara.

Arrival at Gibbs farm for a late lunch and relaxing afternoon with plenty of activity options such as a farm visit, Elephant Falls hike with a ranger or just hang out in the lush, mature gardens.

Overnight at Gibbs Farm

Day 3:

Ngorongoro Crater

Depart after breakfast for Ngorongoro Crater. Picnic lunch and full afternoon in one of the most beautiful and photogenic places on earth. Your hotel the next two nights is larger than I would usually like but is positioned right on the rim and affords you not only a spectacular view of the crater but also efficient access to and from the crater access roads.

Overnight at Serena Hotel

Day 4:

Ngorongoro Crater

Full day to enjoy Ngorongoro Crater. You will have access to a wonderful naturalist during your stay who can accompany you on the game drive and / or meet for a nature walk after.

Day 5:

Ndutu

Depart this morning for Ndutu, a region in the Northern part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area that stretches to the southern boundary of Serengeti National Park. Exaud will take a back road through the Enduli region of the Highlands so that you can appreciate this beautiful region in a way most visitors miss on the main road. Masai villages dot the dramatic landscape and this drive provides a deeper understanding of Masai tribal life and their relationship to the land. The Masai are Tanzania’s fiercest and most colorful tribe and learning about the arrangement these fascinating people have made with the Tanzanian people and Government is very interesting.

You will have a picnic lunch and can have a leisurely day as we make our way through this incredible landscape to one of northern Tanzania’s most authentic and friendly safari Lodges.

Overnight at Ndutu Lodge

Day 6:

Ndutu

Full day to explore the Ndutu region where resident animals will be scattered throughout the area. One never knows what you will encounter here and, as it is not quite high season for the migration in Ndutu, it will feel like we have the place to yourself.

Overnight at Ndutu Lodge

Stay 7:

Central Serengeti Private Mobile Camp

Ultimately your destination is a secluded private camp set up just for you but, how and when we get there is up to you. The schedule can be based on animal movements, your energy level, or how long a day you wish to have.

Overnight Private Tented Camp, Serengeti

Day 8 & 9:

Central Serengeti Private Mobile Camp

Three full days to explore the vast central region of Serengeti. Part of the migration may have started to arrive in the general area and each day can be planned according to animal movements. Surrounding areas of Moru Kopjes, Namiri Plains, Nabi, Gol Mountains and Simba Kobjes are all accessible from this location and Exaud will advise you of the current conditions. It will be your choice of which adventure to explore each day. Having this much time in one part of the park is a luxury.

Overnight Private Tented Camp, Serengeti

Day 10:

Northern Serengeti

The precise schedule of your day can be determined on location but you will be traveling north. The landscape changes as you make your way. Part of the drive will detour out of the park where you can see the small towns and villages that border the park and get their lifeblood from it. It is also the area where most of the food to the northern camps and lodges comes from and you will pass many farms that supply Sayari, our destination today.

Overnight Sayari Tented Camp, Northern Serengeti

Day 11:

Northern Serengeti

Full day to explore the northern region of the park and as in our last camp, you are positioned to explore many interesting adjacent areas to your base. The Mara River is very close to your camp and this is the place where the famous wildebeest crossings occur and if you are very lucky, you may be just in time for a front row seat!

On a personal note, I have seen the most incredible things in the north. Exaud is very familiar with the area and will advise you of the various options you have the flexibility to enjoy. You will also be joined by Elia, a guide who is an expert in this area.

Overnight at Sayari Tented Camp, Serengeti National Park

Day 12:

Northern Serengeti

Today you have many options. You will be moving at some point to a nearby property which will afford a slightly different viewpoint of this region. It is up to you when to depart Sayari. Your wonderful options for this last day on safari will be discussed the night before.

Overnight at Nimali Tented Camp, Serengeti National Park

Day 13:

Flight Back to Arusha

This morning you will be driven to the Kogatende airstrip. Precise timing will be confirmed a few days prior to the flight. Your morning flight back to Arusha will be an amazing punctuation of the entire safari you will see much of the land you have traveled by car but now from the sky!!!! You will have a few hours in Arusha to have lunch and do some shopping before being transferred to Kilimanjaro airport to board your evening departure.
