Sample Itinerary #2

Custom designed to maximize your experience. I have always believed that with every adventure you take in travel there are 3 trips in one. The one you experience while planning. The one you experience while actually on the trip and the one you keep in your memory.

Our aim is to make all three fun and memorable….

Departure Day:

Depart on flight organized independently by the client.

Day 1:

Arrive in Tanzania

Evening arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). After going through immigration, customs, and the obtaining of your visa, you will be met in the luggage area by a driver who will be holding a sign with your last name. The drive to your hotel will take about 30 minutes and a light meal will be waiting for you upon arrival at the hotel.

Overnight at Ngare Sero

Day 2:

Tarangire

Leisurely early morning to rest after your flight and enjoy the beautiful grounds of Ngare Sero. After breakfast you will depart for Tarangire National Park and your first afternoon in the bush! The scenic drive from Arusha to the park gate will take about 2 hours. Shortly after entering the park, you will stop by the Tarangire Safari Lodge for a hot lunch. The view of the river from the deck is awesome! Your ultimate destination today will be Oliver’s Camp, one of the first camps of its kind in Tarangire, established years ago by my dear friend, Paul Oliver. Now in the Asilia family of properties with upgrades, Oliver’s camp still retains the feeling of a real bush camp. Shelia and Steve love it here.

Overnight at Oliver’s Camp

Day 3:

Tarangire National Park

Oliver’s Camp is located in a very secluded part of the park and close to the large Silale Swamp area where I have seen more elephants in one group than anywhere in Africa! Tarangire National Park offers you a wonderful opportunity to observe elephant behavior in general. The Tarangire river is the main feature of the park and always draws wildlife to drink. Exaud will advise the best options given the conditions at the time.

Full day to explore Tarangire.

Overnight at Oliver’s Camp

Day 4:

Tarangire National Park

Exaud will advise the best options given the conditions at the time. Oliver’s Camp is beautifully situated to enjoy the bush from camp as well so by all means stay back at camp all or part of the day and see what comes to you!

Another full day to explore Taragire.

Overnight at Oliver’s Camp

Day 5:

Karatu Region

Your destination today will be the beautiful Gibbs Farm, located in Karatu. With no stops, this drive would take about 3 hours but you never know what you might see on way to the gate! Today’s scenic drive is one of my favorites in your itinerary. Karatu is one of Tanzania’s most productive agricultural areas where coffee, rice, and maize are important crops. On our way, we will pass through the lively village of Mto Wa Mbu where the best bananas in the area can be found. Seriously, the bananas here are delicious! Shortly after passing this village, the road starts ascending as you near the Great Rift Valley escarpment. You will have a chance to appreciate a view of this awesome geological feature as well as one of the famous soda lakes, Lake Manyara.

Arrive at Gibbs Farm for lunch and relaxing afternoon with plenty of activity options.

Overnight at Gibbs Farm

Day 6:

Ngorongoro Crater

Depart with a packed breakfast for the floor of Ngorongoro Crater. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach the descent road from the farm. Picnic lunch and full day in one of the most beautiful and photogenic places on earth. Your hotel the next two nights is larger than I would usually like but is positioned right on the Crater rim and affords you not only a spectacular view of the Crater but also efficient access to and from the Ngorongoro Crater floor access road.

Overnight at Serena Lodge

Day 7:

Ngorongoro Crater

Early morning descent to the Crater floor with picnic breakfast and lunch. Today, you will be one of the first cars down into the Crater. The morning is a magical time in this magnificent natural wonder and the best opportunity to see lions active within the pride-an unforgettable experience.

You will return to the hotel later this afternoon and have a private walk with our favorite local naturalist. Yotham will surely impress you with his knowledge of this incredible region’s history flora, and fauna.

Overnight at Serena Lodge

Day 8:

Central/East Serengeti

Another beautiful and scenic drive today as you leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and enter the vast Serengeti National Park. There are a few ways to design this day’s schedule and Exaud will have briefed you the night before. Length of drive is quite variable depending on your wishes but generally this is an all-day drive. But, whatever the plan, this is another exciting drive with an incredible landscape transition that one can never forget!

Overnight at Singing Grass Lodge

Day 9:

Central/East Serengeti

Two full days to explore the vast central region of Serengeti and each day can be planned according to animal movements and your wishes. At this time, the migration will have moved north but there are lots of resident wildlife that permanently reside in this central region of the park.

Surrounding areas of Seronera, Moru Kopjes, Namiri Plains, Nabi, Gol Mountains and Simba Kopjes are all accessible from this location and Exaud will advise you of the current conditions. It will be your choice of which adventure to explore each day. Moru Kopjes is my absolute favorite part of the park and Exaud will definitely suggest a visit to this specular landscape.

Overnight at Singing Grass Lodge

Day 10:

Central/East Serengeti

Full day to explore.

Day 11:

Northern Serengeti

The precise schedule of your day can be determined on location, but you will be traveling north. This day is a full day scenic drive. Part of the drive will detour out of the park where you pass small villages that border Serengeti National Park and get their lifeblood from it. The lovely farms in this area supply most of the food for the northern camps and lodges and many of the workers in the park come from these villages.

Your destination today is the beautiful Kuria Hills Lodge. The lodge is raised high off the ground so the views are amazing and you will appreciate this different perspective of the bush landscape. Exaud will get you there with enough daylight to enjoy the scenery from the Lodge and hopefully see a beautiful sunset.

Overnight at Kuria Hills Lodge

Day 12:

Northern Serengeti

A leisurely morning at Kuria Hills Lodge is one of many options today. At the time of your choosing, make your way to Asilia Sayari, your next fabulous destination for three glorious nights! Today and the next two full days afford you the luxury of time to explore the northern region of the park.

Overnight at Asilia Sayari

Day 13:

Northern Serengeti

You are positioned to explore many interesting areas adjacent to your base. The Mara River is very close and this is the place where the famous wildebeest crossings occur and if you are very lucky, you may be just in time for a front row seat! On a personal note, I have seen the most incredible things in the north. Exaud is very familiar with the area and will advise you of the various options you have the flexibility to enjoy.

Overnight at Asilia Sayari

Day 14:

Northern Serengeti

Full day to explore.

Day 15:

Departure Day

Last glorious morning in the bush!  After breakfast, you will be driven to the nearby Kogatende Airstrip. Exact departure time will be confirmed a few days prior to the flight. Your morning flight back to Arusha will be an amazing punctuation of the entire safari as you will see much of the land from the air that you previously traveled by car!!!! You may have a few hours in Arusha to have lunch and do some shopping before being transferred to Kilimanjaro airport to prepare to board your evening departure. This last day schedule will be set as soon as we know the departure time from Kogatende Airstrip. Alternatively, you may fly directly to Kilimanjaro Airport.
